The UTB/TSC Women's Golf team will play in its first tournament hosted by Texas Lutheran University (Seguin, Tex.) Monday at 8:30 a.m.
Coach Anthony Lopez is excited to get this season underway. His thoughts were, "Coming off our best season in recent years I feel like we've added some real talent to the lineup this year. "This group of girls is great. They are already meshing well and that is a huge bonus and a necessary ingredient to be successful."
The following are Coach Anthony's player highlights of the 2012-2013 Women's Golf Team:
Cat Lira is the only senior on this year's squad. She has a great work ethic and a very determined attitude. You can bet if things are a little off she will be working to fix them. I look for her to shoot her personal best round this year.
Liz Garza is the only junior on this year's team. She lead the team her freshman year in scoring average and played a vital role in the team's success last year. My hopes for her are to find consistency this year. She has a really solid golf game and potential to lead the team any given week.
Alainey Muro is the returning conference medallist. Coming off a great freshman year I know she wants to improve on last year's statistics and get back to the National Championship. She is very talented, but still very young. Her best is yet to come.
Veronika Vasquez came up huge for us at the end of last season. She has a very steady golf game and does a lot of things very well. She works hard on her golf game and wants to improve. Now with a little experience under her belt, I look for her to improve upon her scoring average from last year.
Angela Zepeda and Miranda Nichols both came from Edcouch-Elsa High School and from a great high school coach. As freshman they will have an immediate impact on this golf team. They are both fundamentally sound and have great attitudes and work ethics. I am really excited to see what they produce this fall semester.
The UTB/TSC Women's golf team is coming of its best season in the NAIA era. UTB/TSC recieved votes in all of the spring polls.
This tournament will be the first of three events for the women this fall.
Round two of the tournmanet will start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday in Seguin, Texas
