Danica Markovic of the University of Texas-Brownsville is recognized as the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the dates of Sept. 3-9. In additional conference awards, Lynsay Buell of Texas Wesleyan University was named RRAC Hitter of the Week, Katarina Bursac of UTB was selected as Setter of the Week, and Paula Barros of UTB and Stephanie Dominguez of TWU earned a share of Libero of the Week for the same dates.
Markovic, a junior outside hitter from Subotica, Serbia, averaged 3.9 kills per game to pace the Lady Scorpions to a 3-0 week. She had 15 kills in a 3-0 win over Lee University (Tenn.) and 12 against Bethel College (Tenn.). For the week, she had 35 kills in 77 attacks with 12 errors for a .299 hitting percentage. Markovic also chipped in 27 digs as top-ranked UTB moved to 7-0.
Bursac, a freshman setter from Belgrade, Serbia, posted 96 assists, or 10.7 per game. She registered 36 assists against Bethel and 32 against Lee and had 18 digs for the week.
Barros, a senior libero from Sao Paulo, Brazil, provided 34 digs for UTB including 12 against Bethel and 13 against Lee. She committed just one receiving error and was credited with five service aces.
