The #1 NAIA ranked UTB/TSC Women's Volleyball team will be home in the Rio Grande Valley for the first time since the start of the season. They will play this Saturday, September 15 at the UTPA Fieldhouse in Edinburg. It will be a double header for the Scorpions who will first battle Texas Southern University at 1:00 p.m. and then against the University of Texas-Pan American Broncs at 5:00 p.m. The match versus UTPA is known as "Battle of the Orange" and has turned into one of the great valley rivalries.
UTB/TSC is coming into the doubleheader at UTPA with a big tournament title in Cleveland, Tennessee at the Lee University Showcase this past weekend. In that tournament the team beat, then #3, Columbia College in three straight sets 22-25,26-28,18-25 and, then #6, Lee University also in three straight sets 20-25,21-25,22-25.
UTB/TSC is currently 7-0 on the season and for the exception of one game they have won all their matches in three straight sets.
This will be the third time UTB/TSC will play UTPA on the volleyball court. The series is currently knotted up at one game apiece. The Broncs won the first meeting in 2007 and UTB got revenge in 2009 winning convincingly in three straight sets.
Texas Southern University and UTPA are both members of the NCAA.
After this weekend UTB/TSC will be on the road for three straight games before returning to Manuel Garza B. Gym in Brownsville on September 28 for their conference home opener versus Jarvis Christian College.
This will be the first game UTB/TSC plays as National Champions on their own home court. They will only be playing a total of five home games this season.
