
Danica Markovic of the University of Texas-Brownsville had a repeat performance as the Red River Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, picking up her second consecutive award for Sept. 10-16. Magda Santos of Wiley College (Texas) earned RRAC Hitter of the Week, Katarina Bursac of UTB and Taylor Calverley of Southwestern Assemblies of God University (Texas) earned RRAC Co-Setter of the Week and Diana Castaneda of Wiley won RRAC Libero of the Week.
Markovic, a junior outside hitter from Subotica, Serbia, compiled 27 kills as UTB won two more matches and remained unbeaten at 9-0. She posted an attack percentage of .400 on 55 attempts with just five errors. Markovic had 13 kills in a 3-0 victory over Texas Southern University and 14 as UTB defeated the University of Texas-Pan American, 3-2. She also contributed 22 digs for the top-ranked Lady Scorpions.
Bursac, a freshman setter from Belgrade, Serbia, was another repeat award winner with 90 assists in two matches. She posted 38 against TSU and 52 against UTPA. Bursac also added 14 digs and four service aces.
Kirsten Kubicek of the University of St. Thomas (Texas), Markovic, Katie Rosenbusch of Texas Wesleyan University, Santos and Jessica Sodich were nominated for player/hitter of the week. Angelica Arroyo of TWU, Jessica Izquierdo of Wiley and Brittany Weiler of UST were setter nominees. Paula Barros of UTB, Lauren Hutchinson of TWU, Shirley Paul of UST and Emmalee Smith of SAGU were considered for Libero of the Week.
