KILLEN, Tex.-- UTB/TSC Men's golf team placed 5th in the University of Mary Hardin Baylor Fall Clasic Tournament, September 24-25.
"The first round we played pretty solid as a team." "We had a few mistakes coming down the last few holes that could have put us closer to the lead but we felt we were still in contention."
After round 1 UTB/TSC was tied for 4th place as a team and Senior Marcus Cavazos led the team shooting a one over par 73. Both Eric Cavazos and Alberto Castillo shot 74, and Freshman Michael Fasci shooting 77 to post a team score of 298.
"The second day we didn't play consistent as a team. The wind was blowing hard, the course was setup difficult and we couldn't overcome it as a team." "We had an opportunity to place a few spots higher but didn't get it done".
Gage Murphy shot a 73 in round 2 – the 3rd best score of round 2 for any team! Alberto shot 77, Marcus 83, Michael 83, Eric 84 for a team score of 316.
"Overall I am ok with the first tournament of the year." "We could have played better, especially on day two, but it was good for us to see that the entire team can kick in and shoot good scores, that will be important as we progress into our season." "We will continue to work hard and find a way to play good both days." Coach Anthony Lopez
Next tournament will be hosted by St. Thomas University in Houston, TX. It will serve as a conference preview tournament for the men's team.
