The UTB and TSC Men's Soccer team after being down for most of the game comeback and beat the Huston-Tillotson Rams 3-2 in a double overtime thriller. UTB and TSC were down as much as 2-0 before scoring two late goals to take it into overtime and ultimately winning it in the second overtime period.
"What an entertaining game it was." said UTB and TSC head soccer coach Dan Balaguero.
Entertaining indeed.
The Rams scored first and lead 2-0 early in the second half but UTB and TSC would strike in the 62nd minute when Victor Parreiras found Ricardo Diegues for the first goal. A little over ten minutes left in the game on the 79th minute of the contest Diegues found a streaking Henry Moody and he would do the rest and boot it to tie the game at two.
Tying the ball game late was crucial for UTB and TSC which helped them gain momentum heading into overtime and their head coach knew his team had fight left in them.
"We kept doing the right things, moving the ball fast and getting the ball wide when we had to. Once we finally got on the board I really believed we would go on and win it (the game). It was great advertisement for our conference having two good teams going right at each other for over one hundred minutes." said Balaguero.
Regulation time ended and the first overtime period came and went with the score still tied up at two.
The dramatics would come in the 101st minute in the second overtime when Parreiras, who already had recorded one assist, set up Diegues for the go ahead score and to finalize it at 3-2. The crowd burst in cheer and so did the UTB and TSC bench.
"The strike by Diegues to win it was pure quality. It was a great treat for our fans." said Balaguero. "All the credit has to go to our guys for not accepting defeat."
UTB and TSC go to 6-1 in conference play with the win over Huston-TIllotson. The Men's team next contest is this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Scorpion Field against Southwestern Assemblies of God University.
