The game that had been tabbed as the NAIA game of the week and depicted #1 UTB and TSC versus the #2 Concordia University -Irvine Eagles lived up to all the hype that comes with two juggernauts going at it head to head. In the end the Eagles hand UTB and TSC their first lose of the season defeating them 3-2 (26-24, 28-30, 20-25, 25-20, 12-15).
"I thought the game had everything it was suppose to when it number one versus number two, both teams left it all on the court." said UTB and TSC head coach Todd Lowery. "We did the things we talked about doing we just broke down in a couple of spots at key moments in the game and that was the difference."
UTB and TSC won the first match on a game point serving ace by Michelle Marques to secure the win. UTB and TSC had got in a hole a little bit in the beginning of the first trailing 3-1. A kill by Vanja Joksic made the score 4-3 giving UTB and TSC the edge and they never looked back in taking the first set 26-24.
The second set was tight and entertaining that had the sold out crowd at CU Arena on their feet and the teams did not disappoint tying the score at 25 a piece and going back and forth for four straight match points with the Eagles prevailing 30-28.
The second set was a momentum builder for CUI using it to win the third set. The Eagles led the whole way with UTB and TSC making it close cutting the lead to 23-20 pressuring the Eagles to call a timeout. UTB and TSC made two attack errors out of the timeout giving CUI the set 25-20.
With their backs to the wall and down two sets to one UTB and TSC did not back down and pulled together to comeback after trailing 6-3 to win the fourth set 25-20. A kill by Danica Markovic made the score 8-7 and the blue and orange never trailed in the fourth set on their way to the set win.
"We got a stellar performance out of Danica with a lot of help from everybody else." said Lowery.
