History making continues at UTB/TSC with the Women's Soccer team.
After reaching the Elite 8 of the NAIA National Tournament this past season it was also announced last week that head coach and 2012 Red River Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Nik Barjaktarevic has been awarded the 2013 RRAC Coach of Character Award.
"I'm very privileged and humbled to receive this recognition. It is certainly something that honors our whole team, our players as well as staff, as they have worked extremely hard both on and off the field to have champions of character program an integral part of who we are." said Barjaktarevic
The UTB/TSC women's squad ended the season with a 16-4-1 overall record winning both the RRAC regular season and the conference tournament championships in back to back years. The Elite 8 finish was the farthest a women's soccer team has reached in program history.
"I've learned so much from our players over the past six years here at UTB, and it has been truly a journey not only in soccer but life. I feel fortunate to have coached such a wonderful group of young ladies and this awards speaks volumes of what is important for them, for our program and me personally." said Barjaktarevic
The award is given to one coach in each conference that participates in the NAIA and Barjaktarevic was nominated and chosen for the RRAC.
The award acknowledges coaches that embrace, teach, and display character through their respective sports as well as demonstrating character values of Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.
"Our whole team has been committed and it definitely took time and practice to make all five core values common element and one of most important aspects of our success on the field and something everyone will carry long after graduation." added Barjaktarevic
