The 23rd-ranked UTB/TSC women's golf team began its spring schedule Monday at the Jack Brown Memorial Tournament, posting a team score of 349 to sit in seventh place in an 8-team field after 18 holes at the Laredo Country Club in Laredo, TX.
"Today was a decent day on the golf course but unfortunately we made a few small mistakes that added up." head coach Anthony Lopez said. "Tomorrow we need to keep the ball in play and make more putts."
University of the Incarnate Word leads the team standings at 315, only one shot ahead of Western Texas CC.
Sophomore Veronica Vasquez posted UTB/TSC low round of the day, shooting a score of 83 and is currently tied in the standings at No. 13 with 5 other players. Her teammate Alaney Muro is one of those players tied with Vasquez. Western Texas CC Stephanie Berselsen shot par 72 to take control of the lead after day one.
Freshman Angela Zepeda is tied for 30th after an opening round score of 90. Senior Christian Lira shot a 93 and was followed by newcomer Paulette Tostado who finished off the day with a score of 96.
The final round is scheduled to begin at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.
