BROWNSVILLE - The University of Texas at Brownsville soccer teams held their annual summer soccer camp on the grounds of the UTB Soccer Camp this week.
Thirty-five campers participated in the camp that ran from Monday through Thursday.
The 2013 soccer summer camp was open to children between the ages of 4 and 17.
The camps were led by UTB head men's soccer coach Dan Balaguero and the staff of the women's soccer squad including women's assistant coach Juan de Dios Garcia, Graduate Assistant Helen Wagstaff, All-American Isadora Freitas, former Goalkeeper Karla Hernandez, and volunteer Armando Hinojosa. The campers were grouped in three sessions according to children's age.
"We had a great group of campers, very attentive and disciplined." Balaguero said. "We had a lots of small sided scrimmages concluding camp today with 3 on 3 tourney."
Sessions for the Junior and Elite camps were held from 9-11:30 a.m. each day, while sessions for the Minicamp were from 9-10:30 a.m.
The multi-day camp combined the elements of individual skills, shooting and defending with the main focus on passing and keeping possession of the ball.
"We had a great week." Balaguero said. "The coaches including myself and kids had an awesome time."
