KERRVILLE -- UTB/TSC played steady golf in miserable weather conditions to share the men's division lead after the first round of the Schreiner University Spring Shootout Monday at the Club at Comanche Trace Golf Course.

The Scorpions shot a 311 score, good for a tie for the lead with The University of Texas at Tyler in the nine-team field. Our Lady of the Lake University is in third place four shots behind at 315.

The second round will begin with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. The weather is expected to improve after Monday's round played with temperatures in the 40s and a steady drizzle.

Vince Cavazos led the Scorpions with a round of 75, good for a tie for second place in the individual medalist race, one shot behind tournament leader Luke Loggins of UT-Tyler.

Seniors Chris Milligan 78 and Brock Crosson each shot 78, which put them tied for seventh place in the medalist race. Joseph Lucio shot a score of 80,  and Victor Calzada's 82 did not count toward the team score.

"That's some pretty good golf," Scorpion head coach Bob Lucio said. "The guys held their own, and give them a lot of credit."

Three Scorpions were playing as individuals played well. Anthony Milligan fired a 77, good for a tie for fifth place after the first round. Matt Cadriel shot 80 and Marcus Cavazos 82.

Last weekend, the Scorpions won the Sen. Eddie Lucio Collegiate Invitational at the South Padre Island Golf Club in Laguna Vista.

In the women's division, UTB/TSC is in seventh place out of eight teams with a 389 score. Andrea Cadriel and Cat Lira each shot 95, Krystal Garza 99, Larissa Loredo 100 and Pamela Lopez 118.
