Volleyball - 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, 2010
Scorpion Volleyball Camps for children ages 8 to 18 and for organized teams will be conducted this July by at the Manuel Garza B. Gymnasium on the UTB/TSC campus.

The camps will give participants the opportunity to learn volleyball by Scorpion head volleyball coach Todd Lowery, who has taken seven collegiate teams to the national tournament in seven years.

The individual camps will hone all six volleyball skills. Players will be grouped by ability and then matched with the right coach. The format will include all skill positions as well as play. After these volleyball-packed sessions, players will be ready to take their games to the next level.

The camp staff is dedicated to not only improving individual skill and team concepts, but to also make sure that every camper leaves the session as a far better competitor. The staff conducts the camp in a fun and positive environment, so that campers leave camp motivated and ready to go to the next level.

Each camp is structured for specific age groups and have different registration fees. Camps are held for four hours each day for three days.

Registration deadline is July 1. After July 1, a late registration fee of $15 will be charged.

The camp dates, age groups are:

Ages 8-12 (All-Skills Camp 1)
  • Friday-Sunday, July 9-11 (Registration at 8:30 a.m. July 9)
  • Sessions: 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
  • Registration Fee: $75
Ages 13-15 (All-Skills Camp 2)
  • Friday-Sunday, July 16-18 (Registration at 8:30 a.m. July 16)
  • Sessions: 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
  • Registration Fee: $100
Ages 16-18 (All-Skills Camp 3)
  • Friday-Sunday, July 23-25 (Registration at 8:30 a.m. July 23)
  • Sessions: 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.
  • Registration Fee: $100
Scorpion Team Camp
The Team Camp will provide teams and their coaches the opportunity to train and compete against numerous other teams throughout the camp just prior to the high school season. Each team must be accompanied by a coach. Coaches are responsible for their teams. There will be a camp coach available to assist any team in developing the best offensive and defensive system for your particular team. Times will be arranged according to availability of team schedules.
  • Wednesday-Friday, July 30-August 1
  • Registration Fee: $200.
Participants are expected to bring appropriate shoes, training clothes, and knee pads.

Participants are expected to act with respect for themselves, other campers, staff and the UTB/TSC campus. Campers who cannot behave in a mature manner could be expelled from camp without a refund.

Camp Instructors
The 2010 Scorpion Volleyball Camp will be led by head volleyball coach Todd Lowery and assistant coach Roberta Santos. In seven years as a head volleyball coach in the NAIA, Lowery has taken all seven teams to the NAIA National Championship Tournament. The 2009 UTB/TSC Scorpions finished the season with a 34-3 record, winning the Red River Athletic Conference championship. The Scorpions qualified for nationals and placed fifth in the nation. Lowery has a career head coaching record of 245 wins and 25 losses. His teams have a combined average grade point of average of 3.2, ranking among the best in the nation.
