Tameka Barrett has signed a Red River Conference Letter of Intent to join the Scorpion women's soccer team.
Barrett is a December 2009 graduate of Manning's High School in Savanna la Mar, Westmoreland, Jamaica. She played with Reno FC of the Jaiaican National Premier League and also participated in Jamaican U20 and Senior National Teams.
"With the signing of Tameka, we are getting closer to finalizing out 2010 recruiting class," Scorpion head coach Nik Barjaktarevic said. "She is an outstanding goalkeeper getting recognition not only at high school and club level, but also representing the Jamaica with the U20 as well as Senior National Team."
Barrett, who will enter UTB/TSC as a freshman, plans to major in Business.
"She has been highly recommended to us," Barjaktarevic said. "Tameka will bring maturity, experience and tremendous athleticism as she makes the transition to college soccer in the United States."
Barjaktarevic wants to build depth at all positions on the field. The Scorpions, who finished the 2009 season as Red River Athletic Conference champions with a season record of 11-5-2, will be stacked at goalkeeper.
Returning goalkeepers Stephanie Reid and Jessica Hamer will both be seniors for the 2010 season. Barjaktarevic plans to bring in another goalkeeper in the 2011 recruiting class.
