GRAND PRAIRIE -- The UTB/TSC women's golf team finished the first day of the 2010 Bluebonnet Classic in eighth place Monday at Tangle Ridge Golf Club.

The Scorpions shot an opening-round score of 370, which was 55 shots behind tournament leader Redlands Community College (Kan.). Nine teams are entered in the field.

Krystal Garza's 87 led the Scorpions on the opening round, with Larissa Loredo two shots behind her at 87. Andrea Cadriel finished with a 94 and Pamela Lopez a 100. Cat Lira's 104 did not count toward the team total.

UTB/TSC is 19 shots behind Rogers State University (Okla.), which is in seventh place.

"This is the toughest place we've played all year,"  Scorpion head coach Bob Lucio said. "Golf is a game of inches, and there's not much difference between 85 and 95. Our putting was bad. We had 26 three-putts today, and we've got to improve on that."

A shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday will mark the beginning of the final round of the tournament.
