The UTB/TSC women's golf team will begin play in the Red River Athletic Conference Women's Golf Tournament, which is being held in conjunction with two other conferences, Monday and Tuesday at the River Oaks Golf Club in Edmond, Okla.
Tournament action in the 36-hole event begins with shotgun starts at 10 a.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. This tournament is classified by the NAIA as Unaffiliated Group #2
Tournament, pitting the three conferences together with nine teams
competing.
"It's a long and narrow course," Scorpion head coach Bob Lucio said. "The greens have a lot of slope, so let's see what happens."
Only five schools in the RRAC have women's golf, and six sports are
required to have a conference champion. Thus, the RRAC joins the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and the Midlands Collegiate Athletics Conference for the tournament.
The winning team advances to the NAIA National Women's Golf Championships May 25-28 in Rapid City, S.D. The top individual, if not on the winning team, will also advance to nationals.
At their last competition in the Northwood University Tournament March 30, the Scorpions finished in eighth place in a nine-team field.
Participating for UTB/TSC will be Andrea Cadriel, Krystal Lopez, Larissa Loredo, Cat Lira and Pamela Lopez.
