Mission Veterans Memorial seniors Rick Alanis and Alex Diaz de Villegas signed Red River Athletic Conference Letters of Intent to join the Scorpion baseball team during a ceremony at their high school Wednesday.
"I am excited to have Alex and Rick join our squad for next year and the years to come," Scorpion head coach Bryan Aughney said. "I am very happy they have chosen to stay close to home and become Scorpions."
Alanis, a 6-2, 180-pounder, is a pitcher and first baseman for the Patriots. He was Second-Team All-District as a junior. His academic interest is mathematics.
"Alex is very athletic and will compete for spots in the middle infield and on the mound," Aughney said. "Rick is a first baseman with great bat speed and has the potential to be a power guy from the left side of the plate. Both these guys have worked really hard in the classroom and on the field."
Diaz de Villegas is a pitcher/infielder for the Patriots. He was the team Offensive Most Valuable Player as a sophomore and junior, and was All-District 30-5A. His academic interest is business.
