UTB/TSC is seeded fourth in the six-team tournament. In the 2008 and 2009 seasons, the Scorpions finished third both times and were 2-2 in each tournament.
If they Scorpions beat Wiley, they will advance to play the winner of the game between second-seeded Northwood University and fifth-seeded Bacone College on Sunday.
If the Scorpions lose to Wiley, they will play the winner of the game between top-seeded Texas Wesleyan University and sixth-seeded Texas College on Sunday.
Wiley was the South Division champ and the Scorpions finished in second place.
Scorpion head coach Bryan Aughney knows that it will take solid pitching for each game and contributions from everyone on the team, including non-starting role players.
"Our pitchers need to be in the zone, we need to play good defense, and get timely hitting," Aughney said. "It the same formula and approach to every game."
Few people are expecting the Scorpions to win the tournament and advance to the super regionals. But Aughney has the team focused that a conference championship can be attained if the right combination of solid pitching and clutch hitting.
"If we go out a play like we are capable, and take care of the baseball I expect good things," Aughney said. "We have a lot of fight and grit on this team and they know our work isn't done yet."
