FORT WORTH -- UTB/TSC took a huge step toward to the program when the Scorpions downed Bacone College, 10-5, in a loser-go-home Red River Athletic Conference Tournament game Tuesday at LaGrave Field.

With the win, the Scorpions qualify for the NAIA National Baseball Championship Tournament for the first time in school history. The Scorpions will be sent to one of nine sites May 18-21 for a five-team double-elimination tournament. UTB/TSC will not find out until May 14 where it will play, but the possibilities are Lubbock, Oklahoma City (Okla.), or Jackson (Miss.).

UTB/TSC also set an NAIA school record for victories with 29. The Scorpions are now 29-21 for the year.

Daniel "Trey" Garcia pitched the game of his life. He went all nine innings, throwing 134 pitches. He allowed five runs, 10 hits, struck out three and walked three. Four of the runs he allowed were earned.

UTB/TSC now advances to play Texas Wesleyan University at 4:30 p.m. today.

The following game log was produced during the 10-5 victory. Daniel "Trey" Garcia was on the mound for the Scorpions.

Scorpion First Inning
UTB/TSC picked up two runs in the first inning. Jorge Camorlinga reached on an infield error, and scored on Peter Maldonado's double down the left-field line. Maldonado moved to third on Matt Warner's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Matt Ginn's sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Scorpion Third Inning
The Scorpions added three runs in the third inning, starting off with a solo homer by Matt Warner off the scoreboard in left-center field.

Bacone Third Inning
Cody Pifer took Garcia deep over the left-field fence. Garcia walked another batter, but a fine defensive play at first base by a diving Brian Bustos ended the potential rally

Scorpion Fourth Inning
After leadoff singles by Camorlinga and Maldonado, Bacone head coach Bill Neale lifted starting pitcher Ryan Brewer for reliever Blake Kastl. Matt Warner sacrificed both runners to second and third.
However, Gus Henggeler grounded into a double play to end the inning.

Bacone Fourth Inning
Garcia went down the Bacone order 1-2-3.

Scorpion Fifth Inning
Brian Bustos singled and Walter Blume walked to start the inning. After a fielder's choice, Blume went to third on a wild pitch. Robert Mariscal hit a grounder that hit the third base bag for a single, scoring Blume and making it 6-1. After a wild pitch moved Garcia and Mariscal up to third and second, respectively, Camorlinga followed with a clean single to center field, scoring both and making it 8-1.

Maldonado reached on an infield error, putting runners at first and second. Matt Warner followed with a single to center, scoring Camorlinga and making it 9-1. Warner advanced to second on the throw to third base.

Bacone changed pitchers again, this time going with John Norwood.

Ginn delivered his second sacrifice fly of the day, scoring Maldonado and making it 10-1. Bustos flied out to deep center to end the inning.

Bacone Fifth Inning
More great defensive plays. Bacone's Eric Blanco hit one destined for a single to right field. But Mike Garcia made a diving stop, got to one knee and fired to Bustos for the out. A walk and two singles produced a Bacone run, making it 10-2 with two outs. But Trey Garcia, pitching his best game ever as a Scorpion uniform, induced the final out on a lazy fly out to center field.

In five innings, Trey Garcia has allowed two runs and five hits, and has struck out two and walked two.

Scorpion Sixth Inning
Blume walked and Mike Garcia was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Blume was picked off by the catcher, and Mariscal struck out for out number two.

Bacone Sixth Inning
Garcia continued his magic. Bacone is hitting the ball well, but right at Scorpions. The first two outs were line outs to Maldonado in right field. Blume then ranged far to his left to make a nice play for the final out. After six innings, it's still 10-2 Scorpions.

Scorpion Seventh Inning
The Scorpions went down quietly, 1-2-3. Jeff Allen pinch hit for Gus Henggeler and stayed in the game at catcher.

Bacone Seventh Inning
Garcia allowed a single and a walk, but got the final hitter to bounce a grounder back to him. After seven innings, Garcia is throwing his best game ever as a collegiate player. He has allowed six hits, struck out three and walked three. He has thrown 111 pitches, and still going like the Energizer bunny.

Scorpion Eighth Inning
The Scorpions went down quietly again 1-2-3.

Bacone Eighth Inning
Garcia got the first out, and allowed a single. Again, the Scorpions did a good defensive job, with Blume and Mike Garcia turning in a 6-4-3 double play. Through eight innings, Garcia's line is eight innings, 120 pitches, two runs, seven hits, three strikeouts and three walks.

Scorpion Ninth Inning
Norwood has settled in nicely for Bacone. He retired the first two batters, making it nine straight Scorpions retired. Maldonado broke up the streak with a clean single to center. Warner grounded out to end the inning.

The Scorpions are three outs away from achieving a major goal -- reaching the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The top two teams in this tournament qualify for the national tournament.

Bacone Ninth Inning
Logan Sansoni hit Garcia's first pitch over the left-field fence, making it 10-3. The next batter singled, but Garcia got the first out on a pop out. The next batter was retired on a fielder's choice, but a double produced a run to make it 10-4. The Scorpions almost ended the game on a ground ball to Martin Cantu now playing first, but his throw to Garcia covering first was high, and another run scored to make it 10-5. Garcia retired the final batter for the Scorpion monumental victory.
