LUBBOCK -- Good things eventually end -- and UTB/TSC felt good after its showing in the NAIA National Baseball Championship Opening Round Group 4 Tournament.

Mount Marty College (S.D.) struck for six runs in the third inning to defeat UTB/TSC, 10-5, in their game Wednesday at Hays Field. Photo Gallery!

UTB/TSC ends its season with a 31-24 record, its best since joining the NAIA in 2006-07.

Mount Marty, 37-16, advances to meet York (Neb.) at 1 p.m. Thursday. Lubbock Christian University, the host team, is the only tournament unbeaten and will play the winner at 4 p.m. Thursday.

Jorge Camorlinga led off the game with a solo home run to right field, and then had another solo homer in the bottom of the third inning, also to right.

In between, Mount Marty struck for six runs in the third inning off Scorpion starter Kevin Chapman and led after three innings, 6-2. The Scorpions could never recover.

Mount Marty took a 7-2 lead in the top of the fourth, only to see the Scorpions cut the lead to 7-4 in the bottom of the inning. The score remained 7-4 until the seventh, when the Lancers broke for three more runs to make it 10-4. The Scorpions scored in the bottom of the ninth for the final 10-5 margin.

"I thought we had good energy at the start, and kept good energy throughout," Scorpion head coach Bryan Aughney said. "Jorge started off the game real well for us. I thought Chapman threw well for the most part. He made one mistake in the third to (Jason) Schmidt who got us. We kept fighting but couldn't get close enough."

Chapman was relieved by Daniel "Trey" Garcia, who pitched three innings, and Jesus Mendoza, who went the final two.

The Scorpions had seven hits. Aside from Camorlinga's two hits, Matt Ginn also had two.

UTB/TSC reached the NAIA National Championship Opening Round by placing second in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament in Fort Worth two weeks ago.

The tournament marked the end of the collegiate careers for five Scorpion seniors -- pitchers Daniel "Trey" Garcia and Jesus Mendoza, infielders Walter Blume and Brian Bustos, and outfielder Robby Mang. Blume injured his ankle during Tuesday's game and did not participate in the two Scorpion games Wednesday.
