Elizabeth Garza, member of the Lopez High School girls' golf team, has signed a Red River Athletic Conference Letter of Intent to join the Scorpion women's golf team.
Garza was a member of the Lopez team that won the District 32-5A championship in 2008. She was third place in the District 32-5A medalist race in 2008 and 2009. She qualified for the 2010 Cypresswoods Championship in Houston by placing second in the South Texas PGA point system.
"She is an excellent student and pretty good player," Scorpion head golf coach Bob Lucio said. "Coach (Anthony) Lopez and I want to work with her to get her more length off the tee, and to work on her course management. She comes from a well-known golfing family. Our golf program is better for having Elizabeth play for us this coming year."
Garza finished first in four high school tournaments. She has been a participant of the First Tee program at Fort Brown Golf Course for several years.
"One of my biggest passions is playing golf and I have always wanted to improve my game," Garza said. "I believe that playing for the Scorpion team will help me do so. Playing on the Scorpion golf team will also challenge me to do better and have fun while doing so."
Garza is also a Scorpion Scholar.
