About 20 children from ages 4 to 14 looking to improve their soccer skills took part in the first of two Scorpion Boys' and Girls' Soccer Camps Monday at the Brownsville Sports Park. Watch Video!

The camp is scheduled for four days from 5-8 p.m. Campers in this week's camp will have three hours of instruction each day until Thursday, June 10.

The camps are led by Scorpion head men's soccer coach Dan Balaguero and head women's soccer coach Nik Barjaktarevic. Also assisting are assistant women's coach Shane Sanchez and 2008 Red River Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player Fernando Mendoza, who played with the Scorpions in 2007 and 2008.

Balaguero and Barjaktarevic are among the most respected soccer coaches in the nation. The Scorpion men's soccer team has won three straight RRAC titles and the women's team has won two of three conference titles. Both teams advanced to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round in 2009.

A second Scorpion boys' and girls' camp will be held July 26-29. The camp registration fee is $100, which includes a camp t-shirt.
