HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- UTB/TSC will not have another undefeated season in 2010.
The Scorpions surrendered two second half goals and dropped a 2-1 decision to Belhaven University (Miss.) in their season opener here Friday night.
UTB/TSC plays its second game of the season at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hattiesburg against Mid-Continent University (Ky.)
In 2009, the Scorpions were the only unbeaten team in the NAIA with a 17-0-2 record. Any dreams of extending the unbeaten streak were dashed in the last 13 minutes of the game.
"We dominated the game and gave up two crazy goals which we normally don't give up," Scorpion head coach
Dan Balaguero said. "We had a good performance and dominated the game, but I'm not happy with the result, because we gave the goals away."
Aaron Guerrero scored on a header on a cross from
Juan Nava 40th minute of first half to give the Scorpions a 1-0 lead.
Belhaven scored the equalizer in the 71st minute on a 35-yard shot, and went ahead to stay on a 45-yard free kick in the 77th minute.
The Scorpions outshot Belhaven, 8-5. UTB/TSC goalkeeper
Juan Gamboa had three saves.
"It is what it is this early in the season," Balaguero said. "We've got to get out of our system and move forward."
