FORT WORTH -- UTB/TSC wrapped an unbeaten weekend at the Wesleyan Hughes Volleyball Classic with a 3-0 win over Brenau University (Ga.) Saturday at Texas Wesleyan University.
 
With the 25-8, 25-8, 25-16 victory, the NAIA's eighth-ranked Scorpions moved to 3-0 for the season. Brenau dropped to 0-4.
 
Eleven Scorpions saw action in the match, which took 58 minutes. The Scorpions had an impressive hitting percentage of .358, with 33 kills on 67 swings with only nine errors.
"I thought we played pretty well for the first weekend," Scorpion head coach Todd Lowery said. "For the most part we were very efficient in our side out game.  We served well and were able to keep teams out of system."
 
UTB/TSC started the weekend with two victories Friday -- a 3-0 win over Mid-American Christian University (Okla.) and a 3-1 win over Loyola University (La.)
 
"Against Loyola, we simply made too many mistakes," Lowery said. "We had 25 hitting and six service errors. Most of the hitting errors were unforced it's something we will work on correcting."
 
In Saturday's victory, the most impressive statistic was 26 assists by Paula Barros, who also led in digs with six. Danica Markovic led the attackers with nine kills. UTB/TSC had six team blocks, with Katharina Nobel and Anna Guerra each getting three assisted blocks.
 
Markovic had great numbers in the three match victories, She finished with 28 kills, a .364 hitting percentage, 18 digs, and 13 aces in 10 sets played.
 
The Scorpions return to action at the Quality Inn Classic hosted by Columbia College in Columbia, Mo. Sept. 3-4. The feature match at the tournament will be a Sept. 4 meeting with Columbia College, ranked seventh in the nation.
