HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The rough start to the 2010 season continued for the UTB/TSC men's soccer team here Saturday.

UTB/TSC and Mid-Continent University (Ky.) battled to a 1-1 tie after 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minute of overtime in a game played in steady rain on the campus of William Carey University.

The Scorpions are now 0-1-1 for the season.

"At least it kind of stops the bleeding and gets us back on track," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said.  "I'm not pleased with the entire weekend. We'll take the tie at the end of the day."

Steve Howard scored on a penalty kick with 23:46 first half to give the Scorpions a 1-0 lead that seemed like it would stand for a victory.

But with less than three minutes left in regulation, MCU scored on a 20-yard shot in the 88th minute.

Juan Gamboa had four saves for the Scorpions, who had seven shots on goal compared to four for MCU.

"Obviously I'm glad we didn't lose, but when we're leading in the 88th minute, we should close the game out," Balaguero said. "We need to win these kind of games. It feels like a loss in a way but we need build on wins like this."

The Scorpions next play Sept. 4-5 in Houston against University of St. Thomas and William Carey University.
