UTB/TSC and William Carey University battled to a 1-1 tie in a tense women's soccer double overtime game Saturday night in the Scorpion Soccer Classic at REK Center Field.
The game marked the season opener for the Scorpions, who are now 0-0-1. WCU, which defeated The University of Houston-Victoria Friday, is now 1-0-1.
The Scorpions will host UHV at 6 p.m. Sunday at REK Center Field.
"We played a very tough game," Scorpion head coach
Nik Barjaktarevic said. "We had some opportunities, but we were playing against a great team. "Everybody performed really well. We're definitely on the right track.
After a scoreless first half,
Isadora Freitas scored in the 61st minute on a 25-yard shot. Tori McDavitt tied the game five minutes later for the Crusaders.
There were tight defenses on both sides. WCU had a 15-14 advantage on shots, but the Scorpions had eight shots on goal compared to five by the Crusaders.
