Bryan Aughney Image
Bryan Aughney - Head Coach
Bryan Aughney was named Head Baseball Coach at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College on October 22, 2008.

A native of Bozeman, Mont., Aughney began working at UTB/TSC in September 2007 as Assistant Baseball Coach. During the 2008 season, the Scorpions went 24-32 and were seeded sixth in the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament. UTB/TSC was the surprise team in the tournament with a third place finish.

During the 2006-07 season, Aughney was an assistant coach at Bellevue University, which reached the NAIA Baseball World Series semifinals. During 2005-06, he was Assistant Coach at Northland College under Joel Barta, the former Scorpion Head Baseball Coach who Aughney succeeded.

Prior to that in 2005 and 2006, Aughney was also Hitting Coach for the Wisconsin Woodchucks of the Northwoods League, a summer baseball league for collegiate baseball players.

For two seasons in 2004 and 2005, Aughney was head coach of the Big Sky Fall Baseball League for players 18 years of age and younger. From 2001 to 2004, he was also Associate Head Coach of the Gallatin Valley Outlaws American Legion team.

Aughney attended Dawson Community College (Mont.) from 2001 to 2002, helping the Buccaneers win their conference and region championship and advancing to the 2001 NJCAA World Series.

He then transferred to Northland College (Wis.), where he became an All-Conference outfielder and utility player and was team captain and received the Team Foreman Award in 2004. Aughney was a two- time All-Conference Outfielder and also earned Academic All-Conference honors.

Aughney received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and a Coaching Minor from Northland College in 2004 and a Master of Arts in Leadership from Bellevue University in 2007.

Joe Carnahan - Assistant Coach
Joe Carnahan was named the Assistant Baseball Coach at The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College in December 2008.

Prior to his current position, Carnahan served as the Head Baseball Coach of  the Swift Current Indians of the Western Major Baseball League, a summer collegiate baseball organization. Carnahan led Swift Current to the 2008 regular season and Eastern Division Championship.

He previously served as Pitching Coach at the University of North Dakota in 2007 and as Assistant Baseball Coach for Northland College from 2003-2006.

He also worked as Assistant Coach at Swift Current during the summers from 2005-2007.

For five of his seven years playing for the Swift Current Indians, Carnahan was named their Most Valuable Player and a member of the WMBL championship teams in 2001, 2005, and 2006. In 2002 and 2004, Carnahan was named the WMBL's MVP, was named WMBL Playoff MVP in 2005, and WMBL All Star five times from 2002-07,

Carnahan received a Master of Science in Kinesiology from the University of North Dakota in 2008, a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Northland College in 2005, and an Associate of Arts in Journalism from Iowa Western Community College in 2001.

Noe Gonzales - Student Assistant
Noe Gonzales has been a student assistant coach at UTB/TSC since the Sping 2008 season. He played with the Scorpions during the 2006-07 season. Gonzalez plans to graduate in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education degree majoring in kinesiology.

Chris Walker - Student Assistant
Chris Walker played for the Scorpions from 2005-08. He became the first student-athlete to complete four years in the Scorpion baseball program. He was named student assistant coach in Spring 2009. Walker plans to graduate May 2009 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in computer science.
