Close to 30 local girls had the opportunity to sharpen their soccer skills under the direction of UTB/TSC women's soccer coaches and players this week at the Scorpion Girls' Soccer Camps at Scorpion Field.
The camps featured instruction by UTB/TSC head soccer coach Nik Barjaktarevic, assistant coach Christian Galluci, 2008 Red River Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year Linette Cuvillier and 2008 UTB/TSC team MVP Helen Wagstaff.
Barjaktarevic said he saw a dedicated group of young players at the camps.
"It was great to see so many female players that are committed to becoming better players," Barjaktarevic said. "I'm sure everyone had a lot of fun, besides all the learning that took place. I know I did, and it's a great way for our player instructors to relax before preseason."
Aside from receiving lessons from collegiate soccer players and coaches, all campers will also be VIP guests for the Soccer for a Cure Tournament at the REK Center Field on UTB/TSC campus August 21-23. The UTB/TSC women's soccer team will play two games in the tournament with one game against the Harlingen Celtics at 7 p.m. August 21 and another against Tec De Monterrey University at 3 p.m. August 23
