Julian Moya has emerged as the ace of the Scorpion pitching staff and the top pitcher in the Red River Athletic Conference. During his freshman season, Moya was a spot pitcher, appearing in 12 games and posting a 6.94 earned run average. He caught the attention of everyone as a sophomore, when he pitched 101 innings, the second highest marks in the NAIA. Moya was the workhorse of the staff, pitching seven innings or more nine times in 18 appearances. He was the winning pitcher in the Scorpions' win over Houston Baptist University, the first and only win over an NCAA Division I opponent in Scorpion baseball history. In conference games, he was 3-1 with an ERA of 2.79. Conference opponents had a .214 batting average against him. He earned Red River Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team honors. He caught national attention as a junior, when he posted an 8-2 record with a 2.88 earned run average. Moya was a strikeout artist, posting double-digit strikeouts four times. Against nationally ranked Wayland Baptist University in the season opener, Moya struck out 12 and allowed only three hits and averaged 12.48 strikeouts per nine innings, a statistic that ranked seventh-best in the nation. In conference games, he was 2-0 with a 2.49 ERA. He earned the RRAC Pitcher of the Year Award in 2009, and led the conference in ERA and strikeouts per nine innings.
