Aliesha Cassie, a senior who returned to UTB/TSC after a two-year absence, was named Red River Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period Aug. 23-29.

Cassie was a defensive force for the Scorpions from her center back position in two games last week. UTB/TSC tied ninth-ranked William Carey University, 1-1, and blanked women's soccer newcomer University of Houston-Victoria, 2-0.

Against a very strong and talented William Carey squad, the Scorpions battled evenly. WCU had only five shots on goal, partly because of Cassie's defensive presence during the 90 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime.
