Dennis Ortiz is an Associate Master Technical Instructor of Accounting in the School of Business at UTB/TSC. He has served as the Faculty Athletics Representative for the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics since 2006.
He has worked at UTB/TSC since 1998 as his current position, Assistant Professor and Visiting Professor.
From 1991 to 1995 and 1996 to 1998, Ortiz served as Lecturer, Teaching Fellow, Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Accounting at The University of North Texas.
In 1995 and 1996, he was Lecturer at the Breech School of Business at Drury College. During that period, he started an IRS Voluntary Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at Drury, as a project for my Corporate Taxation students.
Ortiz worked as a Tax Consultant in Arizona from 1989 to 1991 and was in data processing sales with IBM from 1978 to 1991.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master Accountancy degrees from the University of Arizona in 1978 and 1989, respectively, and a Ph.D. in Accounting from The University of North Texas in 2000.
As an undergraduate student at University of Arizona, Ortiz received a competitive scholarship to join the Men's Varsity Gymnastics Team.
Ortiz is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, a member of the Texas Society of CPAs and the Rio Grande Chapter, and a member of the American Accounting Association.
He was also Gymnastics Coach at San Diego State University, Gymnastics Center of San Diego and Gymnastics World (formerly Gymnastics Center of Tucson), from 1981 to 1989.
Ortiz serves on numerous campus committees at UTB/TSC. He is involved in the community through consultation with local news media and volunteers regularly to local non-profit organizations.
His scholarly activity includes six works in publications from 1999 to 2005.
